Hi Coven!
Today is Monday, which in Pagan or Witchcraft culture is the Moon Day. One of the first Goddesses I started to worship was Selene, the Goddess of the Moon. The Moon factors into almost every aspect of Witchcraft. I don’t know a single Witch that doesn’t have a deep love for Mama Luna including myself. I try to say a little prayer and light a candle for Selene each Monday as part of my routine practice. AND yes, there are Mondays I forget, but Selene has never been offended.
How can you honor to the Moon on Moon-Day?
This is a super simple and easy thing to do, place out a bowl of water with Lavender Buds and Rosemary onto your altar. Rosemary is for clearing energies in a space and lavender is to invite in calming vibes. I do this practice in the evening vs the morning, and the obvious reason for that is the Moon comes out in the evening vs “going to slumber” in the morning. It is also a good way to unwind from the day and get refreshed for the rest of the week. After I set out the bowl as an offering, I say a prayer and light a white, silver, or purple candle. The color white is the most common for worship, and it represents the moon. The color Silver represents the Devine Feminine (and when I say Devine Feminine I am referring to the internal i.e. the emotional world that the Moon rules over.) Purple in color magic theory represents the Higher Self and Goddess Work. All three of these colors work when praying to Selene or your Chosen Moon Goddess.
This is the Prayer I Wrote for Selene (which is a reworking of '“Our Father”1 ) :
Selene, Lunar Mother,
Beautiful and Divine, Nocturnal Sister
A beacon of light, I call for your guidance,
I call for the endless depth of your grace,
Your celestial knowledge and wisdom,
I call upon your balance and light,
I ask you to guide this one,
Blessed Be Divine Selene,
Thank you Divine Lunar Mother
for allowing me access to your infallible love
and limitless wisdom,
Blessed Be Goddess
So Mote it Be
Feel free to write your own prayer or use this one. I usually leave the candle to burn through a night. I have a pack of 100 tealight I got super cheap online, which usually burns up by the morning. If you don’t feel safe leaving your candle lite you can just snuff it our before bed.
Blessed Moon Day!
